Ogun Govt Warns Against Roadside Trading After Ota Toll Gate Tragedy

Following the recent fatal crash at the Ota Toll Gate that claimed several lives, the Ogun State Government has issued a strong warning against indiscriminate roadside trading, describing it as dangerous and a major cause of avoidable accidents.

Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, speaking on behalf of the Governor, urged residents to make use of designated markets and safer trading locations rather than setting up stalls along busy highways. She also expressed heartfelt condolences to families affected by the tragedy and assured the public that the government will continue to strengthen preventive safety measures across the state.

Traditional authorities, including the Olota of Ota, have also condemned roadside trading and called on residents to comply fully with safety regulations to prevent future loss of lives.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, has announced that the state have secured a landmark investment of up to $2.5 billion for Africa’s first Disneyland-style resort. While highlighting the state’s rapid economic growth and tourism potential, Abiodun revealed that Ogun’s economy has expanded from N3.5 trillion to N16 trillion over the past six years, ranking it among Nigeria’s fastest-growing economies. In a post via his X handle, the governor credited this growth to strategic investments in infrastructure, basic amenities, and tourism development, noting that Olumo Rock now generates about N20 million weekly following its renovation. The governor further disclosed that MAG Group recently visited Abeokuta and pledged to invest between $1.8 billion and $2.5 billion in hospitality and entertainment projects. The investment plan includes the construction of a Disneyland-style resort, hotels, water parks, and other leisure facilities, marking a major milestone for the state’s tourism sector. ...
