RE: Allegations of Corruption and Thuggery Against the Leader of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Legislative Council, Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu Akanji, ACA, ACIB

Our attention has been drawn to a malicious publication titled “EXCLUSIVE: Ado-Odo/Ota Council Leader in Violent Outburst Amidst Corruption Allegations, Summons Thugs on Colleagues.”

Note to the Public

In line with responsible journalism, we made several attempts to reach the author of this report via phone calls and WhatsApp messages for clarification and evidence to substantiate the claims. Unfortunately, there has been no response as of the time of this release. This silence further proves that the so-called “exclusive” is one-sided, baseless, and lacking credibility.

We, the undersigned councillors, hereby issue this joint press release to categorically debunk these unfounded allegations and set the record straight:

1. On Allegations of Financial Misappropriation

At no time has Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu Akanji been entrusted with statutory funds that were misappropriated. The Council does not operate with an independent budget in the custody of the Leader. Rather, Hon. Gbadamosi is a successful businessman and philanthropist who has consistently demonstrated generosity. He is a cheerful giver who spends heavily each time he steps into the Council chambers, supporting both councillors and staff alike. Many colleagues can testify that he has personally provided financial assistance, fueled vehicles, and supported council activities. We challenge anyone with credible evidence of embezzlement to come forward.

2. On Allegations of Thuggery

The incident being referenced has been deliberately twisted. Hon. Erinle Kehinde Godwin, Councillor representing Atan Ward, was present and an eyewitness at the said event. Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu Akanji only addressed Hon. Akapo Oladunjoye regarding a misunderstanding, and Hon. Akapo did not respond. It was Hon. Joel Okeodebija who suddenly interjected, raining insults and curses on the Leader. Despite this provocation, Hon. Gbadamosi remained calm and did not retaliate physically or otherwise. Therefore, branding this event as “thuggery” is misleading and mischievous.

3. On the Integrity of the Leader

Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu Akanji, ACA, ACIB, is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Banker with proven integrity and competence. He is a man of honor who detests financial impropriety and takes pride in rendering assistance to his colleagues and the community. His record of service speaks for itself.

We therefore urge the public to disregard these baseless allegations. They are nothing but a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing the image of a leader who continues to serve with integrity, dedication, and transparency.
