Ogun govt gives update on NYSC members involved in ghastly auto crash

The Ogun State government has given an update on injured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who were involved in auto mishap on Monday.


 that several members of the NYSC, who left the orientation camp in Ogun State on Monday, were involved in an accident along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Report said of the 37 NYSC members in the bus, 19 were injured, while four, whose injuries were determined to be more serious, were transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) for further treatment.

Giving update on the incident, Adeniyi Akinbobola, Press Officer, Ogun State Ministry of Youth and Sports, said thirty three out of the thirty seven corp members, who were involved in the accident were said to be under stable and perfect condition.

Akinbobola quoted the Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuape as making this disclosure after his visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Sagamu.

The Ogun State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Josephine Bakare, who took the State Commissioner round the camp clinic to see the present condition of the corp members, said 37 were involved in the accident but 33 of them who were with minor injuries were medically certified fit.

She said three of them were released to go home after thorough medical checks.

Bakare said the only one currently at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) was delayed for X-Ray to be carried out on him.

The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuape, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Joseph Fabi, said the state government was shocked by the news of the accident, saying that the commissioner also sent his greeting to the affected NYSC members as well as offers prayers and words of encouragement to them.

Fabi said the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and the State Commissioner for Sports who were on a separate official assignment would be duly briefed on the present state of the corp members for further official interventions.

Confirming the release of the 33 injured corp members to the State NYSC Coordinator, Dr. Tijani Olatunji and the Chief Nursing officer, Emergency Room of OOUTH, Mr. Jacob Oke, said 33 corp members who were brought in with various degrees of injuries were quickly given medical attention and were released, while those who sustained serious injuries may likely be discharged soon.
