62-year-old driver Docked Over Alleged for reckless driving and Manslaughter

A 62-year-old driver, Tajudeen Alabi, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun, for allegedly driving in a reckless manner that resulted to the death of one Samuel Oludare.


Alabi, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of manslaughter and reckless driving.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 7 at about 5.35 p. m. at Oju-Ore, Roundabout, Idiroko Road, Ota.

He said that Alabi, driver of Mercedes Benz, with registration number: APP 555 XF, drove the vehicle in a reckless and dangerous manner that led to the death of 62-year-old Oludare.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 5 and 6 (1) of the Federal Highway Act Cap 135, Revised Laws of the Federation, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr G. E. Akan, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until Dec. 19 for further hearing.
