Ilaro poly gets first female deputy rector

The Governing Council of the Institution has approved the appointment of Engr. (Mrs.) Idowu Kaothara Ogunfayo as the new Deputy Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, thus becoming the first female to occupy the exalted post.

The appointment which is for a period of 2years in the first instance but renewable for another 2years final term upon satisfactory performance takes effect from Monday 5th November, 2018.

Until her new appointment, Engr. (Mrs.) Ogunfayo was the (again the first female) Dean, Student Affairs from January 2015.
A Civil Engineer by profession the new Deputy Rector was born on 16th May, 1959 in Ibadan, Oyo State. She had her educational pursuit as follows:

H.L.A. Primary School Aremo, Ibadan – 1971, Yejide Girls Grammar School, Molete Ibadan – 1976, Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye – 1998, Federal University of Technology Akure – 2003, NUC Virtual Institute of Higher Education Pedagogy – 2003.
Engr. (Mrs.) Ogunfayo holds, National Diploma, Higher National Diploma (Civil Engineering) Msc Transport Studies, Certificate in Education (VIHEP) as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering.
The new Deputy Rector had her NYSC in Obudu L.G. Authority, Cross River State in 1982. She worked briefly with Toffs Consultancy Services, Bodija Ibadan, between September 1982 and April 1985 before joining the services of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro in August 1985 as a Technologist II.
She rose through the ranks and got converted from the technologist to Lecturer Cadre. She was promoted to Principal Lecturer in 2013 and capped it up with Chief Lecturer in 2016.
She is a member of various relevant professional bodies such as Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigerian (COREN), Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Nigerian Institute of Training and Development (NITAD), Nigerian Institute of Engineering Management and Women in Technical Education and Employment (WITED).

Engr. (Mrs.) Ogunfayo had attended more that Thirty-One (31) Conferences and Workshops within and outside Nigeria and had presented more than 26 Seminars and Conference Papers till date.
She had also authored more than 7books/publications and had served in about 23 Statutory/Management Academic Committees of the Institution including the Academic Board, Ceremonies Committee, Examination Malpractices Committee, Academic Award Committee among others.
The new Deputy Rector is an accomplished Scholar who had traversed various segments of the Institution during her career.
