Sango Ota – A 42-year-old man, Adebanji Adeniyi, was on Monday brought before an Ota Senior Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly collecting N380, 000 under false pretences.
Adeniyi, who lives at No. 18, Ogunrinde St., Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, is facing a count charge of fraud.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the fraud on Aug. 21, at Iyana-Iyesi, Ota.
Gbesi said that the accused collected the sum from Mr Saheed Lawal on the pretext of assisting him to carry out an undisclosed business.
“The accused converted the money to personal use instead of fulfilling the agreement between the two parties,” he said.
He said that the offence contravened Section 384 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr G. E. Akan, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100.000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akan ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed and have evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned until Dec. 5, for hearing.
