Police arrest 23 suspected cultists on initiation ground in Ogun State

Ogun state Police Command on Thursday said it has arrested 23 men suspected to be members of a dreaded cult group while undergoing  initiation.


The suspected cultists who came from various locations in Ijebu-Igbo, Ago-Iwoye and Oru-Ijebu were said to have assembled at Ilaporu in Awa-Ijebu for the purpose of initiating new members into their fold yesterday.

The suspects are: Samson Oyetusi, Bankole Tunde, Akorede Samson, Dapo Kukoyi, Onafeko Toheeb, Afolabi Wasiu, Adedimeji Mathew, Arewa Samson, Akintunde Oalsunkanmi, Okejimi Oluyole, Oladeji Akeem, Azeez Adebayo, and Awokoya Kudus.

Others are Azeez Seun, Oseni Wasiu, Popoola Sunday, Awojole Bolaji, Yusuf Seyi, Bamidele Adeboye, Jibola Balogun, Tomisin Isaac, Adeshina Seye, and Adebayo Adewale.

The command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspected cultists had intended to unleash mayhem in the town as a sign of admitting new members.

He said as soon as the suspects  gathered there, policemen attached to Awa-Ijebu Division through intelligence gathering, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Awa-Ijebu, Olu Monday, swooped on them.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Anti-Cultist and Anti-kidnapping section for proper investigation and prosecution.
