45-yr-old allegedly murdered over chieftaincy tussle in Ogun community

The police have launched a manhunt for suspected killers of one Waidi Obidairo, in Agodo village, Ewekoro Local Government Council Area of Ogun State.

The 45-year-old father of six, was allegedly murdered over a lingering chieftaincy tussle on December 4, 2018.
It was said that the perpetrators were about to set Obidairo’s body ablaze alongside injured victims, when the Ota Area Commander, Adegoke Fayoade, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) rushed to the scene with his men including the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) of Ibogun Division, in response to a distress call.

It was said that the deceased had been enmeshed in a controversy following his support for an Oba-elect, whose coronation was to take place last month.

The late Waidi, according to sources, had gone to the village in the company of about nine other persons in preparation for the coronation when they were ambushed by hoodlums suspected to be loyal to those opposed to the new monarch.
The case had since been transfered to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP’s) Monitoring Team, code-named “Striking Team”, attached to the headquarters of Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja Lagos.

Meanwhile, lawyer to Obidairo’s bereaved family, Chief Adekunle Funmilayo, in a petition dated December 6, 2018, urged the Inspector General of Police(IGP) to bring the culprits to justice..

One of the victims, Mrs. Rebecca Onilere, revealed that she escaped being killed during the mayhem by whiskers, adding that many people had deserted the village, for fear of being killed by those behind the crisis.

A top police source told The Nation that the crisis in the community had been on for three years until it recently turned bloody leading to the death of the late Obidairo.
He said that normalcy had since returned to the community, while some suspects are now in police custody and may be prosecuted soon.
