The members of Yewa Descendants Union UK and Ireland received the shock news of the death of three students of Ojumo Community High School, Ihunbo in Ipokia Local Government. According to the information reaching us, this is yet another recklessness by the officers of the Nigerian Custom Service in the name of chasing suspected smugglers.
We are also aware of injuries sustained by other students.
We wish to offer our condolences and commemorations to the families of the young students whose future have been cut short. May their souls rest in peace. We pray that the Almighty God shall console their loved ones and grant them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
It is disheartening that the overzealousness of the men of the Nigerian Custom Service should again result in the killings of innocent citizens in our community. Living in border areas of Yewaland should not feel like living in battlefield, likewise, manning of borders in our community should not lead to wanton killing of our people. We have experienced similar fatal incidents at Ajilete, Oke-Odan, Oja-Odan, Owode etc. The loss of our people due to this dastardly acts is becoming one too many.
The President and the entire members of Yewa Descendants Union UK and Ireland strongly condemn these vicious killings. We call on our Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to hasten the investigation of this irresponsible behaviour and bring the culprits to book. This will not only ensure justice is served to the memory of the young ones who were cut down in their prime, it will also restore confidence in our people that the excesses of the officers of Nigerian Custom Service can be curtailed and they do not have licence to be reckless in their duties.
We understand that emotions are running high at this provocative time but we urge our people to be calm and allow government intervention to take its course.
Thank you.
