Lagos- Safer Roads Advocacy Network, (SRAN), in a press conference organized on Monday in Akute area, Ogun state, called on Governor Dapo Abiodun, of Ogun state, to expedite actions in line with his campaign promises and recent visits to the area, to upgrade, repair and reconstruct the poor road networks associated with communities and towns, in the state, especially those communities bordering Lagos state.
Alake Adigun, who is the Cordinator of the Network, said, “The Ogun State government, embarked on the construction of the road from Sango end of Ogun through Ijoko, Ogbayo, to Agbado Crossing which is expected to terminate at the Berger end of the State.”
“A lot of houses and other structures were pulled down. This was in a bid to build a model road that will bring development which was greatly lacking in the affected areas, but the hardship brought about the construction is overwhelming, and till date, the road is yet to be completed because it was abandoned.”
“While we appreciate the efforts of the governor and his determination to change the narrative despite the deteriorating income to the state, yet, we need to say that the road situation has resulted in the loss of revenue for many business owners including schools, churches, and even homeowners as many have had to abandon their homes for more accessible locations, with the rains which started now, the situation of residents will become more dire and precarious” he added.
The group further said it has concluded arrangements to pay the governor a visit to submit a special letter containing workable solutions and faster means of raising funds for the execution of the project. A similar visit will be made to Abuja to meet with Mr. Raji Fashola, Honourable Minister of Works and Housing to also deliver a letter requesting a special collaboration between his ministry and the state in the area of concessions in accordance with the latest policy of the Federal Government, which is the desire of the citizens of Ogun state.
