The politics of division ahead of 2027 seems to have begun in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Legislative Chamber, as portfolios of certain councilors, including Hon. Aina Kazeem (Dorykay) of Ota Ward 1, and other perceived Yayi loyalists, were abruptly changed just one week after committee appointments were finalized.
During the first legislative sitting of 2025, several committee appointments were unanimously agreed upon by councilors, with Hon. Kazeem initially appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Housing. However, in a surprising turn, his position was reassigned to the Disciplinary Committee, prompting three other councilors to withdraw from their nominations.
An anonymous source disclosed that the initial appointments were made fairly, but a revised list was later presented, citing "orders from above" as the reason for the changes. The source expressed concern that such interference could disrupt the unity among councilors, urging leaders to allow them to perform their duties peacefully for the benefit of their constituents.
The source also alleged that some councilors were being marginalized due to their perceived loyalty to Senator Yayi, stating, “They claim we don’t deserve key appointments, but these roles help us address the struggles of our people and bring their concerns to the forefront.”
Efforts to reach the House Leader, Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu, for comments were unsuccessful as calls to his line went unanswered at the time of this report.
