Business and politics often create tensions, and in Ogun State, the latest controversy involves former Governor Ibikunle Amosun and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote. The dispute centers on claims that Amosun’s administration twice demolished Dangote’s cement factory in Itori.
In response, Amosun’s media office dismissed the allegations as “mischief,” insisting that no business, including Dangote’s, is above the law. According to Amosun, any demolished structures lacked proper approvals, and he challenged Dangote to provide evidence to the contrary.
Amosun’s team also highlighted his achievements in making Ogun Nigeria’s “Industrial Capital,” attracting over 500 companies and improving the state’s ease of doing business ranking. They recalled former President Goodluck Jonathan’s multiple visits to commission projects, reinforcing Amosun’s economic legacy. However, this dispute now raises concerns about business confidence in the state.
Investors seek stability, and the demolition of multimillion-dollar facilities over regulatory disputes could discourage future investments. While Amosun insists his actions were based on governance principles, Dangote views the issue as a matter of economic certainty.
With both men known for their resilience, the standoff is far from over. In Nigerian politics and business, even billionaires must navigate power struggles carefully. This battle is not just about wealth—it’s about who has the authority to set the rules.
